Having a university with such a rich and diverse history has given many students the opportunity to create various projects depicting our school’s history. For this project, we wanted to talk about the history of the SJSU Community Garden and where it stands today. In previous years, we found that there were about 3 other gardens spread across campus, and as more buildings got remodeled or rebuilt, there was an idea to combine the three gardens and make it a garden center for students to visit and learn about. In 2014, the SJSU community garden was formed by a student-led initiative and sponsored by the Caesar Chavez Community Action Center. Many students came together with this project in hopes of producing healthy fruits and vegetables that would be easily accessible to students on campus, as well as teaching students the importance of being able to farm, garden and maintain plants.
